Reverse Sexism: How come SHE gets in the club FREE and I don't?!?

I can’t believe how unfair some establishments can be towards us guys!

Hoping to land a date last night, I was looking online for something interesting to go to so I could find an excuse to call up a girl to go with me.  After a few dead ends (“Lobster and Lobster Night” at the nearby seafood place, “Dunk a Turtle in Hot Acid Night” at the nearby reptile food place, Karaoke), I finally found something worth going to: a comedy club!

I saw their flier posted on the Internet, and it looked like a really funny line up.  I was just about to put down my turkey and applesauce sandwich to call up my Internet girlfriend (who lives next door, and who I still have yet to actually go out with on a date), when I saw the following words at the bottom of the flier:

“Ladies free before 10; Guys only pay $10.”

WHAT?!?!?

GASP!!!

SHOCK!!

AWE!!

I don’t BELIEVE it – $10 to see comedy at a club?!? I can see it for FREE on Comedy Central any day of the week!

Okay, okay, so some of the ladies might see my reaction to this whole thing as me being a “cheapskate.”  First of all, I’m not “cheap” – I’m “thrift store friendly.”  Sure, I COULD buy my clothes at some place fancy like Wal-mart, but I can get the same shirt for 70% off at a thrift store (AND it’s been field-tested, too)!

Secondly, it’s not necessarily the $10 that annoys me (thought it IS a lot of money for someone on a $9-dollar-a-week allowance).  It’s the fact that the women don’t have to pay ANYTHING, while they expect guys to pony up the money!

This wouldn’t be so bad.. if it weren’t for the fact that almost EVERY club/comedy store/bar in America has at least ONE night of the week where ladies get to do stuff for free, but men don’t.  There’s only one word for this kind of treatment:

REVERSE SEXISM!

Yes, I said it – REVERSE SEXISM! Women have been complaining for YEARS about being treated unfairly by men, and not being able to live the by the same standards as the opposite sex.  Now they are able to have jobs, vote, and join clubs where they were not welcome before.

And that’s all good – but what about MY needs?  What about MY desire to enjoy some of the things ladies enjoy??

I’m sure at least ONE other guy in this country would LOVE to be able to get in the club for FREE at least once a month, or have a “Free Men’s drink night” at the pub.  But OH NO! Instead, we’re expected to pay to get in, THEN pay to buy the ladies drinks that they’re already getting for free in the first place?!?

BOOO, I say, BOOO!

If we’re going to heal the divide in this country, I think there should be a few things guys should be able to do now that have only been offered to women thus far.  These include the following:

  • ONE night per month where men get into clubs for FREE before 10
  • ONE night per month where men can get FREE drinks all night
  • Having a better chance of gaining custody for kids in divorce court
  • Not being laughed at when he calls the police to complain about his wife/girlfriend beating him (hey, it happens!)
  • Being able to enjoy listening to Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child, Taylor Swift, or any other girl group/act without being looked at all funny.  It’s not my fault their producers chose great beats!
  • Not being made fun of for crying

This is just a starter list, but I believe taking these small steps will help both genders get along better, instead of being torn apart by unfair treatment on BOTH sides.

As for the comedy club, I ended up getting in for free after all.  But only because the girl next door sent the club $10 via PayPal, so long as I agreed not to ask her out anymore.  On the other hand, she DID pay for me… maybe it means she likes me after all!
